We provided architectural services for the project, working in partnership with Wickes to create the finalised plans for the 27,000 sq ft purpose-built store that included 79 parking spaces and an outdoor projects centre. Our scope focused on delivering the shell building, including external works, while Wickes managed the interior fit-out.

We developed the detailed design based on an initial high-level site block plan and specification produced by Wickes. This began with planning stage drawings after which we successfully obtained full planning permission. We then prepared warrant, tender, and construction phase drawings and oversaw on-site work to completion. Additionally, we produced full technical drawings for the internal fit-out and secured building warrant approval for all internal works.

Some of the project highlights include collaborating with various sub-contractors to develop a bespoke sprinkler system for the building and installing photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roof to provide zero-carbon energy. Air source heat pumps and high thermal performance cladding further improve energy efficiency. We also worked closely with Wickes’ sub-consultants on the internal fit-out, many of whom were unfamiliar with Scottish Technical Standards, which was a rewarding but challenging experience.

It’s great to see Wickes with a presence in the Northeast again and we were delighted to be a part of this project, developing their first new premise in Scotland in a decade.
