Peterson Energy Logistics

Previously based across two floors within the Regent and Waterloo Quay development in Aberdeen, Peterson wanted to consolidate their space and move to a more prominent location within the city centre with a welcoming, functional and professional feel. They chose their new home on the first floor of 1MSq at Marischal Square, part of an impressive 14,440 sqm of BREEAM Excellent Grade A office space right in the heart of Aberdeen.

This was an opportunity for Peterson to create an office with a much stronger look and identity in a location where their team could come together on one floor. Having worked with Peterson in the past, we were delighted to collaborate with the team again, providing design and build services to develop their new space.

Approach

Peterson approached the project with clear direction for their interior design and came to our team with mood boards and ideas for design elements within the space. We found the main themes and distiled these into a cohesive scheme that fit the budget and met their aspirations. We’ve intensified the amount of detail and texture in the arrival space, giving it a strong impact with colour and materials like biophilic elements, wall panelling and bold lighting. As you transition to the open plan area, the design evolves into a calmer, neutral look as this is where the views out the window take centre stage. The design remains true to their corporate identity, incorporating the signature pale blue-teal accent colour and integrating it into the new layout to maintain brand continuity. The overall palette is soft and neutral, with concrete-effect finishes, preserved moss, and textured wall panels adding character and depth.

The space features an optimised layout with open-plan workstations, private offices, and multifunctional zones. The open plan desks occupy the perimeter, taking advantage of the natural light and views out to Marischal College and Provost Skeen’s house, while adjacent breakout spaces with high tables and a kitchen encourage informal collaboration. The 121 pod and focus rooms, featuring glazed manifestations inspired by Peterson’s office locations, provide versatile options for private or small-group work.

Desks and breakout furniture were reused where possible, with reupholstered desk screens provided by Recycle Scotland. We used LED lighting and incorporated natural materials where we could such as preserved moss and plants to avoid using plastics. As always, we considered sustainable choices wherever possible, doing what we can where we can and working within the design scheme.
