Overview

The Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel (GJCH) sits on the banks of the Clyde, providing accommodation and conference facilities for the adjoining Golden Jubilee National Hospital and the wider market.

SPACE were tasked with the hotel interior design, upgrading the accommodation areas on one floor of the hotel, including the third-floor corridor and 53 rooms, 47 standard and six accessible. The Golden Jubilee Hotel hosts a range of guests – from doctors and nurses to pre/post op patients to those who are attending a conference. The hotel rooms had to be flexible, customisable, and personal, created as a Covid friendly environment without looking like one.

Our Approach

This was a materials science project; it was not simply a hotel interior design project. The strategy considered all of the technical design aspects to effectively incorporate the necessary health and safety needs of the facility whilst maintaining the expected aesthetics and high-quality finishes of a 5-star hotel.

We put people at the centre of the solution, with consideration for how the space would be used by not only guests but also by housekeeping staff, with ease of cleaning a priority.

We took design inspiration from the River Clyde itself. With the greys and blues of the water and sky as a base palette, incorporating secondary colours influenced by the lovely views from outside the windows. With a subtle nod to Scotland, using a balance of materials and colours, the rooms evoke feelings of sophistication and comfort.
