Approach

This project required staff move planning and preparation, with workshops across all departments to discover operational dependencies, critical move scheduling and departmental requirements. We developed a communications strategy (including move guidance), working closely with the college’s Communications and Marketing team. The relocation included:

  • Filing and storage audits of the library, staff, and teaching areas
  • Surveys of all workshops and equipment, including lab and workshop equipment, training rigs, and control rooms
  • Production and management of equipment database
  • Development of a removals tender specification to procure a removal contractor
  • Management of weekly move planning meetings and tasks
  • Daily on-site supervision of removal contractor for the entirety of the move delivery period

Additionally, the move had complex FF&E relocation planning and coordination due to the volume and range of specialist workshop and technical training equipment.

Our teams were on-site at the same time as contractors and sub-contractors due to building delays, meaning we were working with a site that was not fully complete. We met this challenge by changing our daily work order, which allowed us to complete the project efficiently. The move was completed in the Christmas break, resulting in with zero loss of study time for students or downtime for functional departments.
