Edinburgh Office Project Wins Regional BCO Award for ESG Excellence
- Date 28 April 2026
Cundall’s new Edinburgh workplace project has been recognised at the Scotland Regional British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards, securing the overall ESG Award and earning Highly Commended in the Projects up to 2,500 sqm category.
As part of the wider project team, we provided workplace consultancy, interior design and architectural design, contributing to a highly sustainable, inclusive and collaborative office.
The project achieved a 41% reduction in upfront embodied carbon compared to a standard fit‑out, and an 87% reduction against the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard target for 2025 office fit‑outs. Existing assets, including glass partitions, furniture, floor finishes and kitchen equipment, were reused wherever possible, with new materials carefully selected for low‑carbon impact and health and wellbeing performance.
This project has pushed the boundaries on circular economy principles and is a practical demonstration of highly sustainable, cost-efficient, human-centred design, proving that high-performance, flexible, and healthy workplaces can be delivered through circularity principles, careful planning, and performance-based decision-making. It offers a replicable model for low-carbon refurbishment across the sector setting an impressive benchmark for others to follow.
BCO Scotland Judges
Cundall specialists developed a circular economy strategy and undertook whole‑life carbon assessments with the SPACE team at early design and post‑completion stages. Approximately 60% of materials and furniture were sourced from reclaimed sources, delivering an exceptionally low embodied carbon figure of 34 kgCO₂e/m² (GIA) at design stage, with our Recycle Scotland team managing the reuse and repurposing of furniture.
The project demonstrates that with careful planning, creativity, and a commitment to sustainability principles, circularity can be achieved without compromising on design quality or functionality.
Congratulations to the entire project team and all winners at the Scotland Regional Awards. The winners will now represent Scotland at the National Awards this October.
