Overview

The building they were currently occupying had shortfalls in terms of available space, working environment, and operational efficiency, and was felt would hold back their ambitious growth plans. Along with a planned rebranding they wanted to take the opportunity to deliver a new facility to accommodate their ambitious aspirations and signify the commencement of a new chapter for the business.

A vacant unit at Kingshill Business Park was identified and working closely with the team, we crafted a workspace where all employees could now come together under one roof as well as a space that can serve as a showcase for the company’s clients.

Approach

In collaboration with Dron & Dickson, we came up with creative solutions to the challenges they faced on their previous premises, including a lack of sufficient workshop space. They wanted to bring their expanded workforce together under one roof, removing the need for some of their staff to be working in portacabins. Our design incorporated a better workshop-to-office space ratio, still encompassing all the essential elements that they needed, while also value-engineering to ensure we could complete the move within set timelines and budgets.

The design brief added elements that offered new opportunities for the business. For example, we have included a demo room that looks out over the workshop area, which will be an asset for internal training and prospective client visits. We also built a storage unit on the premises which provided a secure solution that could now safely store their high-value steel material, which was essential to the brief.

As a result of this cross-team effort, Dron & Dickson have now moved from a tired space that was no longer fit for purpose, to now working in a contemporary, well-laid-out environment that meets their specific needs. The company also now has a more visible presence in the area, with its new signage visible from the main entrance and nearby roads.

Highlights
  • The brilliant working relationship we forged with the team at Dron & Dickson
  • The client’s infectious enthusiasm for their people and their drive to create a truly great space
  • The chance to utilise an empty building and to optimise its potential
  • The construction team really enjoyed the technical elements of the project, making it an enjoyable build for the team

From the very first meeting, it was obvious that SPACE knew their trade and quickly went to work drafting design options. Once the design was agreed upon and work commenced, it became clear to me that our rationale for awarding this project to SPACE was justified and was the right decision. We had a brilliant project manager who became my single point of contact and who managed every element of the project, and for me, that was invaluable and made my job very easy. Weekly updates and communication were brilliant, and the final product was first-class. Our team love their new work home. Thanks to Dan, Kev and the rest of the team who delivered this project.
