SPACE won a design competition organised by Sodexo to provide interior architecture and design services for the new Lomond Lounge, a new luxury airport lounge on the site of the Lomond Grill restaurant within the original Glasgow airport building designed by sir Basil Spence. The design retains the original architectural vaulted ceilings and panoramic views north over the tarmac towards Loch Lomond. The lounge was completed and opened for business in September 2019.
Our overall concept was very heavily influenced by Scottish heritage, using natural colours and textures such as tweeds and leathers to bring richness and warmth to brutalist space.
Creating a tailored experience was key to the design brief, we formed various zones to allow for different guests to use the lounge in unique ways, quiet tv / working lounge, bar and bistro area, and a social lounge to watch the planes on the runway.
