SPACE were responsible for the full Interior design scheme for the £6m refurbishment and extension of the Highlands hospice inpatient Unit, Ness House, Inverness.
Through careful use of our design expertise we created an environment which is friendly, welcoming and matches the high quality of care provided by the hospice for patients, families and staff alike. The choice of colours and finishes were selected to help reduce anxiety and inform a sense of dignity and respect all key to enhancing the patients and relatives experience through innovative design solutions.
Special consideration was given to personalising the individual rooms and areas to help make the areas feel more homely and play down the medical practicalities which are unavoidable with in the hospice. The use of contrasting colours and art work also will help energize spaces such as the main concourse, complimented by maximising the natural daylight, outlook opportunities and creating a sense of calm in the sanctuary while providing furniture and finishes that also allow a flexible use of these key spaces.
A detailed consultation process allowed our team to gain a greater understanding of the challenges faced by the hospice workforce, informing the introduction of contemporary practical fitments such as the nurses stations and reception which synergise with the building design, interior atmosphere and functional necessities.
The timely completion of the project and considered approach to the design process resulted in a design that matched not only the clients aspirations, but also their budgetary requirements.
