Architectural Technician

Salary: £Dependent on Experience

Location: ​Edinburgh

Due to increased workload and an aspiration for company growth, an opportunity has arisen for an Architectural Technician to join the business to support the existing Architectural and Design Team in Edinburgh.  The role will involve working individually and as part of a team to deliver a wide range of projects in the commercial sector in the Central Belt.  The successful applicant is expected to work on fast track design and build projects and will be required to support the designers with technical expertise and contribute to efficient and clever detailing with consideration being given to commercial implications at all time

We expect the applicant to have a minimum 4 years’ experience in commercial Architecture, ideally with expertise in fit-out and refurbishment projects. Expertise in AutoCAD is essential, while experience in Revit would be a real advantage. Knowledge of 3D modelling and rendering would also be a benefit in supporting the overall studio activities

The candidate will be based in the Edinburgh Office, however may be required to travel to other Space Solutions and Clients Offices. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Role

  • Preparation and submission of statutory consents
  • Preparation of design, construction and tender information
  • Collaborating with designers and giving guidance on use of materials and products
  • Measured Surveys
  • Attending client and contractor meetings and chairing and minuting meetings
  • Brief Taking
  • Client management
  • Sound knowledge of AutoCAD is essential
  • Experience of REVIT would be beneficial

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in dealing with commercial Architectural Projects
  • Sound knowledge and application of the Scottish Technical Handbook with regards to non-domestic building design
  • High level of competence in preparing and submitting planning and warrant applications
  • Sound knowledge of CDM roles and responsibilities and H&S matters.
  • Fully computer literate, specifically AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project.
  • HND or BSc

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in commercial interiors and refurbishment projects
  • Experience of REVIT
  • 3D Modelling and Rendering
  • Sound knowledge of SBCC Minor Building Works contract
  • Member of the CIAT or equivalent
  • Driving Licence
