Max Fordham are a national firm of consulting M&E engineers with a particular reputation for innovation in sustainability.
In the decade since they arrived in Edinburgh, their team grew to the extent that in 2014 their base was no longer fit for purpose. Moving to new premises was an opportunity to express their organisational culture and to build a place “people want to inhabit and enjoy”; a workplace which was sustainable and sensitive to its environment.
The new 3,600 sq ft office space is within an existing building and therefore presented limited scope for radical departures. It presented an opportunity of how to create a sustainable office fit-out, and working with Max Fordham themselves, we have produced an exemplar of sustainability, making use of features ranging from recycled materials to optimum environmental controls. It also provided an opportunity for our team to design a highly usable office which could interpret the ethos of the practice.
Working to a tight timetable and a modest budget, we delivered a space that according to Colin Hamilton of Max Fordham “fulfils all our operational requirements, but also adds a degree of style that is in keeping with our aspirations”.
