SIMEC Atlantis Energy is a global developer of renewable and sustainable energy projects with more than 1,000 megawatts of power projects in various stages of development including the world’s largest flagship free stream tidal power project, MeyGen. In addition to project development, the Atlantis turbine and Engineering Services division designs, supplies and maintains world leading tidal turbines and subsea connection equipment.
Atlantis Resources were situated in an old period property on George Street, Edinburgh. Although the central location was ideal and the building they were situated in was beautiful, the cellular spaces weren’t working for the client and their need to work together as a team. Being spread across different floors was not a sustainable way to collaborate and with limited space in the building there was very little room for growth.
Atlantis were looking for an open plan office, with both areas for breakout and collaboration as well as meeting spaces for informal catch up and quick one-to-ones. They were looking to incorporate their brand identity, whilst keeping the interior fresh and modern at the same time.
By moving office, they were able to obtain the space they needed and our design focused on creating a new contemporary open plan environment. Working closely with the client, we extracted data that allowed us to better understand how they work and how their teams collaborate. We were able to apply and incorporate the findings within our design. As the client was very keen to incorporate their brand colours in their new space, the focus was mainly on the orange and red tones, broken up with subtle contrasts of teals and blues in relation to Atlantis tidal turbines.
During our design process, subtle connections to the turbines were introduced such as angles and sharp lines with the new partitions. Different area zones were created by introducing different floor finishes and incorporated Atlantis’s ‘’A’’ within the open plan floor design, which allowed for a splash of colour as well breaking up the monotony of the open plan plain carpet.
As we were working on a very tight time scale and to a tight deadline, it was vital that we were working closely with the client at every stage of this project to meet their expectations and deliver them the work environment they required.
